Parrow Powers To CRSA Quigley Memorial Victory Saturday In Canandaigua

Williamson & Murtaugh open-wheel winners as Guererri & Eldredge take full-fender features

Canandaigua, NY – July 5, 2025 – Tom Skibinski, Land of Legends Raceway PR

The record-setting A-Verdi Storage Containers CRSA Sprint Series tripleheader closed out over the holiday weekend with reigning Land Of Legends Raceway points king Bobby Parrow dusting the field in a flag-to-flag victory run for the MighTea Boba 305 Sprint Cars.

Defending Pepsi Big-Block Modified track champion Mat Williamson was not quite as dominant yet mustered the same result after leading the final third of the 30-lap feature to score his third win in eight days at the revered Canandaigua oval.

Richard Murtaugh III emerged as the first repeat winner of the season in the Stirling Lubricants Sportsman ranks while C.J. Guererri (Auto Value Parts Stores Street Stock) and Justin Eldredge (Lloyd's Contracting Hobby Stock) were triumphant in full-fender competition to put an exclamation point on the action-packed program presented by the iFreeze Storage & Distribution Center.

For the second time in three days the CRSA chauffeurs converged on the Ontario Co. Fairgrounds, increasing the car count to 31 after 29 wingmen entered Thursday’s seventh stop in the group’s 20th season touring the Empire State region. Following a solid second-place finish two days earlier, Parrow improved one position on Saturday to collect the lucrative Jason Quigley Memorial $1,750 top prize, the most ever handed out since 305s joined Canandaigua’s weekly card in 2012.

“Feels really good and it’s great to do it for the Quigley family,” remarked Parrow, after matching his two tour triumphs posted in 2021 at Canandaigua and Weedsport speedways, now winning at the same two tracks this season to double his CRSA career total to four. “I mean first annual, it’s huge. What they did for this (event) is amazing. Raising all this money, giving all the lap money and everybody got it through the pack. Very generous.”

With high praise extended to event organizers Adam and Stacy DePuy as well as Todd’s Towing, Quigley Concrete, B&N Disposal, Scott’s Services, Eldredge & Sons Scrap Recycling and Legion Auto Service & Repair, the total race purse ballooned to over $10,000 with an additional $2,355 in lap sponsorship dished out to drivers in the top-10 along with numerous specialty awards allocated in round two of the ‘25 DisBatch Brewing Company Challenge.

Parrow accepted the bulk of the post-race accolades after leading throughout the 25-lap A-Main, opening the show with a qualifying heat race win and turning in the quickest lap during the feature. Firing from second on the 24-car starting grid, the Waterloo veteran had his #80 Young Agency-Seneca Meadows-Proctor Enterprises-Waterloo Auto/Shaw mount on rails from the outset. Only one caution kept the field close with pole-sitter Lance Dusett left chasing the entire way.

Yet that lone yellow flag slowing the action on lap 18 was just what Dillon Paddock needed, blasting from eighth to third on the outside in what was easily the move of the race authored in dramatic fashion. Back under green, Parrow ran uncontested with a clean track ahead, cruising home for his 16th career 305 win at LOLR ahead of Dusett by 2.1-sec. with Paddock clinging to third-place at the line.

Looking to match his trips to Canandaigua’s Disabled American Veterans (DAV) victory lane in the Sportsman and Modified classes, Zach Sobotka settled for fourth followed by Alysha Bay, Thursday night winner Jeff Trombley and all-time speedway sprint winner Darryl Ruggles.

Seneca Falls’ Timmy Lotz advanced 10 positions to earn the ImageX Graphics ‘Hard Charger’ Award while John Smith from Rexville received the DisBatch Brewing Company Lucky Dog Award as the last car scored on the lead lap. Dalton Martin and Tyler Graves collected ‘Hard Luck’ awards from Auto Value Parts Stores and Ruggles World Of Auto Body. Hopewell’s Matt Rotz still accepted $100 from TGR Motorsports despite being the first driver in line not to qualify.

Loyal LOLR regular Dan Craun kept his seven-year streak intact as the Livonia pilot remains the only driver to have qualified for all 23 CRSA shows staged at the fairgrounds since Trombley claimed the initial A-Main in May of 2018.

“The (car) actually got better and better and better on the long runs but once I hit lapped traffic (track) kinda rubbered down so it was more of a one-laner,” noted current Canandaigua points leader Parrow after winning his fourth race in eight events. He needed only two wins all of last year to capture his first track crown. “I did go on the outside a couple times but wasn’t as comfortable.”

Sophomore sprint driver Dusett found his own comfort zone, running second the whole way to score his best career finish on the CRSA circuit.

“We had a good piece, went back to old school what we did last year and thing’s just been working,” said Dusett, a 12-time Sportsman winner at LOLR (1994-2004) before returning to short track competition last year steering the #14X Tripodi Contracting/Eagle with a wing overhead. “Have to thank Tony (Tripodi, owner), without him all this wouldn’t be possible.”

After lining up ninth to start the feature, Paddock prevailed with his banzai run on lap 18 carrying his no. 8 Filtrec Corp.-Kitto’s Carting-Papa’s Place Pizzeria/XXX entry to his third straight podium finish on tour.

“Tough track in general, everyone kinda spaced out on that long green flag run,” stated Paddock, who matched last year’s July 4 CRSA win at LOLR with Friday night’s holiday tour triumph out west at Ransomville Speedway. “Didn’t really make any passes and wasn’t going anywhere. Luckily we got that restart. Saw a couple cars in front of me and assumed they were probably gonna go to the bottom so I put my foot to the wood and passed a few cars then landed on the last spot on the podium once again.”

Current CRSA points leader Sobotka and points runner-up Paddock mirrored their front-five feature finishes from Thursday, with both in quest of their first CRSA Championship. Sobotka (1469) leads Paddock (1453) by 16 markers followed by Dalton Herrick (1338), Lotz (1335), Jordan Hutton (1334) and Bay through nine events while Parrow tops the three-race DisBatch Brewing mini-series with only the Sept. 27 event at LOLR left.

Up next for CRSA teams is a trip to Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, Pa. for race 10 of the tour on Fri. July 11 which is also part of the Joe's Garage Southern Tier Series.

Last year Williamson came to Canandaigua looking for more track time and a consistent car set-up, with the ultimate goal of improving his performance in series competition. The St. Catharines, Ont. superstar left with the season points title and four feature wins, two of which came in the prestigious Super DIRTcar Series events.

With a journal now stacked with raceday notes, there seems to be no more guesswork as the no. 6 S&W Service Centre-Marin Drywall/Bicknell entry has cracked the winner’s circle five times in seven starts to keep him atop the standings.

“Didn’t stop working on race cars since Thursday, had to spend a lot of time in the shop,” said Williamson, who added another win steering the #88 Buzz Chew Cadillac-North Country Market-Behrent’s Performance/Bicknell in Thursday night’s series stop at the fairgrounds. “Brought my daughter down here to the races for the first time, hope they can make it out to victory lane at some point.”

Baby daughter Brenna and wife Natalie were certainly proud of ‘Money Mat’ on this night as Williamson charged from 12th to track down fellow Canadian Dalton Slack on lap 20 and pull away for a near straightaway win in the caution-free Big-Block Modified main. Fourth starting Slack swept around Dylan Zacharias on lap two before Williamson took over second on lap 13 and moved in for the kill.

Taking advantage of traffic with the leaders about to put Tyler Murray a lap down, Williamson threw his ride three-wide rounding turns one and two then wrestled away the lead from Slack with 10 laps still to go in the 15-mile main.

“That (pass) was wild. Kinda changed (lanes) into (turn) one and split them, then went to the top,” explained Williamson, after hitting double figures with his 10th win at Canandaigua. “What a race track, I wish it was like that Thursday so we could’ve shown how great this place is.”

“Dalton is a helluva race car driver. If I was gonna finish second to anybody … he deserves one of these wins but with Brenna and Nat here I really wanted to win tonight,” beamed the new father.

Downplayed Slack post-race regarding Williamson’s latest romp, “Hate to say it but he’s probably the best around here in a long time, he’s really good.” Third-place finisher Justin Haers went on further emphasizing the success by saying “I think Mat should start last next week and have Paul (Cole, LOLR promoter) put up a couple $100 extra bucks and take a win from the back, I don’t really know.”

Track regulars Alex Payne, Matt Sheppard, Peter Britten and Erick Rudolph crossed the line next, making this typical ‘Saturday Spectacular” seem like another Super DIRTcar Series event to again reward fans with the best in the Big-Block business.

Land of Legends’ Sportsman class contingent isn’t too shabby either with Murtaugh outlasting Karl Comfort and Tyler Corcoran to garner victory laurels in the 25-lap feature. Murtaugh finished third followed by fellow tour traveler Corcoran in the DIRTcar Sportsman Series North/Central Region event at Can-Am Speedway staged earlier in the week.

“I was watching the (score) board pretty closely, obviously when the no. 64 (Corcoran) pulls up next to you, gotta be on your A-Game,” declared Murtaugh, a first-time track regular, who trails only Corcoran (389) and Comfort (375) in the division standings with 373 points through seven races. “I kinda knew what was gonna happen going into (turn) one (on restart). He’s gonna clear me then we run him hard down the back stretch. Played out just like I expected it to, so pretty happy to come out with a win.”

A trio of yellow flags for minor incidents unfurled during the opening half-dozen laps giving Murtaugh plenty of time to advance from fifth on the 21-car starting grid. Third time was a charm for the Fulton invader as he ducked under early leader Nick Cooper on a second lap six restart while 11th starting Corcoran took over third soonafter with Frank Guererri Jr. and Comfort filling out front-five slots.

Murtaugh built up a ¾-straightaway lead when Corcoran grabbed second from Cooper on lap 10 and Comfort slipped past Guererri for fourth on lap 15. Caution came out again on lap 20 when Nick Galusha spun off the track high in turn two, leaving Murtaugh, Corcoran and Comfort to battle for bragging rights.

Murtaugh left little doubt in the closing stages yet his nearest challengers swapped second spot three times over the final five laps. Comfort secured runner-up for the final time on lap 23 leaving Corcoran to place third as fast improving driver Evan Nugent and Guererri rounded out the top-5.

“Our other car we’ve been running got a lot of races on it and we wanted to try something new,” figured Murtaugh, who won at LOLR on May 31 behind the wheel of a red/black no. 33 180 Flood Drive Properties-Predator Race Cars/Bicknell car before returning to DAV victory lane sporting a similarly lettered car blue in color.

“Took this car to Can-Am on Wednesday and finished third in the series race. Kinda looking for that little bit we’ve been missing. Decided to switch cars and this one was just phenomenal tonight,” beamed Murtaugh, whose third career win at Canandaigua came on the heels of three successive 7th-place feature finishes scored after the May win.

Having his best season to date at the fairgrounds half-miler, Guererri survived the 87-degree heat in the evening’s opening feature race to mirror both Parrow’s flag-to-flag run out front and the Modified main without a yellow flag to earn his second consecutive victory.

“Not at all very easy but we’re here, two weeks in a row,” said the relieved winner after notching his division-best third win of the ‘25 campaign to tighten his stronghold atop the Street Stock points chart. “We’ve got a lot of people to thank. All these guys … it takes an effort to get us here. Without these people it wouldn’t be possible. This race is for the Gulvin family, without them we’d be lost.”

Once Guererri moved out front, his red no. CJ1 Heart of Gold Veterinary Care-Springer Maintenance Consulting-Ontario Concrete & Paving Camaro mount was almost nowhere to be found as the Geneva racer outlasted Rick Crego for a second straight show in the 20-lap headliner.

In a frantic first lap bid for the lead, row two starters Guererri and Marc Minutolo sandwiched pole-sitter Pat Hobbs down the back chute ultimately leaving the race for second about all that remained for the next 10 miles. Eighth starting Crego passed by Minutolo just after the halfway mark with Mike Welch and Hobbs playing out front-five roles as the laps dwindled.

Crego cut down Guererri’s lead to a second by lap 17 but time ran out before any serious challenge for his first career win could be mounted. Instead, Crego was a bridesmaid for the fourth consecutive race, finishing eight car-lengths back under head flagman Scott Hixson’s checkered cloth. Welch and Hobbs came next.

With his own trackside efforts marred by some of the toughest luck of any full-fender contender, Eldredge finally managed to survive the elements and complete all 15 laps en route to the satisfying Hobby win in the last event of the night.

“We weren’t gonna run this car, know something is bent in the right front by the spring bars but we made the call to keep this one and glad we did it,” divulged Eldredge, the 2021 division points champion after his 13th career win at LOLR. “I knew they were all gonna be fast. As soon as Marc (Minutolo) got up there I knew he was gonna be all over my rear-end the whole race. Showed himself on that yellow and tried to get in my head but I knew we were okay as this car rolls through the middle really well and could stay out front.”

Going one better than their older Street Stock brethren, the opening turn of the 15-lap Hobby finale boasted a four-wide frenzy led by pole winner Justin Jacoby. A quick caution came out the second time around when Kevin Lloyd slid high off the track rounding the first corner. Then in a mere three-wide maneuver on the ensuing lap two restart, Eldredge jumped from fourth to first followed by sixth running Nate Peckham, drop-kicking Jacoby back to third showing no sympathy for the move.

Tenth-place starter Minutolo joined the fray up front, stealing third on lap three while young Tyler Burnell held off father Frank Burnell Jr. with five laps under their belts. Minutolo drove past Peckham on lap seven yet still trailed Eldredge by 2.3-sec. with only a handful of laps to go. Yet that once comfortable margin quickly vanished when Randy Johnson spun in front of the leader exiting turn one on lap 12.

The sudden slowdown proved no distraction for the leader as the bold blue no. 25J Eldredge & Sons Scrap Recycling-Sunset Bowl-Big Mike's Auto Chevrolet Monte Carlo would not be denied on this occasion, swelling the final victory margin to 10 car-lengths at the stripe. Points leader Minutolo placed a solid second ahead of Peckham, Frank Burnell Jr. and Blane Smith.
