Points Leader Corcoran Makes Sixth Winner In Six Sportsman Main Events

Williamson, Parrow, Guerreri & Burnell continue success while Wetherbee scores career first

Canandaigua, NY – June 28, 2025 – Tom Skibinski, Land of Legends Raceway PR

Oval track action was hot and heavy in the first ‘Saturday Spectacular’ of the summer at Land Of Legends Raceway, yet Tyler Corcoran kept his cool throughout the A.M.S. Enterprises program and captured his first feature win of the season in the Stirling Lubricants Sportsman division.

While Corcoran emerged as the sixth different driver to garner victory lane laurels in as many Sportsman main events held so far, reigning Pepsi Big-Block Modified points king Mat Williamson took his fourth checkered flag to remain atop the points standings in search of a second straight crown at the Ontario Co. Fairgrounds.

Bobby Parrow (MighTea Boba 305 Sprint Car) and Frank ‘Bubba’ Burnell Jr. (Lloyd's Contracting Hobby Stock) are nearly as dominant now with three wins each in their respective classes while C.J. Guererri triumphed for the second time in Auto Value Parts Stores Street Stock competition and Sydney Wetherbee scored her first career victory in the entry-level Hutchinson Property Preservation New Legends Sportsman ranks.

“I ran it pretty well in the heat race (won from 8th), left the car alone and I think it benefitted myself tonight,” figured Corcoran, following his sixth career feature win at Canandaigua, this one aboard the #64 Power Seal Driveway-Dirt Track Digest TV/Bicknell entry that sported a brand new motor. “I was able to roll the middle (lane) beautifully. Only the second or third race on this car this year and I’m glad we brought this one tonight.”

Matching his qualifying heat race start outside row four, Corcoran cut the deficit in half bolting into fourth after only three times around the fast half-miler. Recent winner Justin Liechti slid high off the track rounding turns one and two to incur caution on lap 10 and the ensuing restart resulted in the first lead change up front.

Nick Cooper out-dragged pole-sitter Kennedy Payne on the opening circuit of the 25-lapper yet fell victim to Corcoran’s lap 10 outburst when the Central Square chauffeur charged from fourth to first back under green. Corcoran split the gap between Payne and Cooper exiting turn one and grabbed the point when Cooper slid high navigating through the second corner.

Himself filing into sixth after the lap 10 yellow flag, Karl Comfort followed in Corcoran’s tire tracks with Frank Guererri Jr., Payne and Nick Ventura holding down top-five slots by the midway mark. The second and final caution came on lap 14 when Tony Velez got out of shape in turn four and Comfort took the lead when the green lights came back on.

Corcoran wasted little time regaining the advantage, mirroring Comfort’s outside move exiting turn four to complete 16. The leaders swapped the top spot once again on lap 18 with Comfort diving low through corner one before his slide job carried him too high in turn two to allow Corcoran back under for good.

From there Corcoran built up a commanding 10 car-length margin under the checkers with Comfort edging Matt Guererri for second followed by Frank Guererri Jr. and Ventura.

“Knew sooner or later (slide job) was gonna come,” added Corcoran after extending his division points lead. “Didn’t really know where to be on that last restart (lap 14). The middle was really good so I took the lead from fourth on the one (lap 10) beforehand. Just knew (Comfort) was gonna go back to the bottom and I knew the middle was gonna be pretty good. Came here with one mindset and that is to win. Been good everywhere and it’s about time we crossed this one off the list.”

Just last season Canadian hotshoe Williamson lightened his own bucket list, not only putting his potent no. 6 S&W Service Centre-Marin Drywall/Bicknell Big-Block in victory lane for the first time but earning three more race trophies to wrap up the 2024 points title. Through the opening six events this year the St. Catharines, Ont. standout already doubled his trips to the winner’s circle and is first in line for another division championship.

“What a great track,” Williamson remarked post-race. “The bump in (turns) one and two is gone, that makes it really racey. Don’t know where to be on the race track so hats off to the track crew and thanks to all the fans for coming out tonight. A bunch of side-by-side three-wide racing getting through there, hopefully it was a good show for the fans. I think not one yellow, so it’s tough to come from 10th and win a caution-free race like that.”

With scheduled pole-winner James Sweeting forced to begin tail after requiring a push start, second-generation driver Zach Payne out-dragged front row partner Kasey Coffey to open the 30-lap caution-free affair. Williamson needed only three circuits to crack the front-five then ran third when Justin Haers out-slid Payne to take over first on lap 13.

A gutsy three-wide move between Payne and the lapped car of Marcus Dinkins advanced Williamson to second halfway through with only Haers riding in his way. Yet just like in his previous early season victories, ‘Money Mat’ was up to the challenge as he ducked under Haers circling turns three and four and forced the final lead change with 10 laps still to go. Haers settled for second in the final tally followed by Zach Payne, Coffey and Alex Payne, with 11th-place finisher Matt Sheppard steering the final car scored on the lead lap.

“I put on older tires and (car) probably wasn’t as good as we need to be to win on Thursday and that’s really the main goal,” stated Williamson, already looking ahead to the headline ‘Stars & Stripes 76’ Super DIRTcar Series showdown slated for July 3 at LOLR. “We’ll work a little bit to get it better in the slick (surface) like that.”

“Usually I can roll and not get the right-rear (tire) out from underneath me but I was just losing the right-rear a little bit. Probably wouldn’t have got (past) Justin if them two (Haers & Payne) didn’t get racing together. They were probably a half straightaway ahead of me,” added Williamson, who won both SDS events staged in Canandaigua last season and held down second on the Northeast’s premier traveling tour’s points chart through six series stops this year.

Parrow left little doubt when the winged machines pulled trackside, needing just seven circuits to blast from eighth to first on his way to an uncontested straightaway victory in the 20-lap 305 A-Main.

“The track was great, we had a little roughness in (turns) one and two but actually I drove through it and it helped me out,” revealed Parrow, after the Waterloo warrior recorded his 16th sprint win at the fairgrounds with 15 (tied for 3rd all-time) coming in 305 competition. “Right from the get-go was good. These tires take a couple laps to warm up but once it started going I had bite all the way around.”

Veteran Steve Glover sped past sprint rookie Dalton Martin under chief starter Scott Hixson’s initial green flag to lead lap one. The 17-car field slowed quickly before a second lap could be completed when Lance Dusett went around in turn one after rear-end contact with Alysha Bay at the end of the front stretch.

Parrow pushed his #80 Seneca Meadows-Proctor Enterprises-Young Agency-Waterloo Auto sprinter into the top-five on the lap two restart, then methodically disposed of front-runners Martin and Dan Craun by lap four. A final surge low down the back chute with six laps already completed carried him past Glover on his way to another convincing triumph at the fairgrounds.

Craun finished a season-best second ahead of hard-charging Jordan Hutton with Martin and Glover filling out the final front-five.

“This is the last night on these tires, good practice heading into the big week ahead,” added Parrow, already looking forward to the Independence Day holiday at LOLR that features the CRSA Sprints joining Thursday’s Modified Series show before headlining the Jason Quigley Memorial on July 5.

Mirroring Parrow’s prompt parade to the front, Guererri wasted little time rolling from fourth to first early in the 20-lap Street Stock feature to become the division’s first repeat winner, copping the ‘25 opener in May.

“This track was good tonight, real good,” said Guererri, after his sixth career Street Stock win increased his career total to 17 full-fender firsts at the fairgrounds. “Didn’t hear anyone behind me or see anybody so I just hit my marks out there.”

After sweeping high out of turn four to overtake early pace-setter Marc Minutolo on lap three, a pair of late race yellow flags were all that could slow the Geneva driver in his run to the checkers. Guererri led by eight car-lengths halfway through and made it a full straightaway with five to go before the parked car of Pat Hobbs outside the turn three pit entrance required caution on lap 19.

Guererri never flinched aboard his no. CJ1 Heart of Gold Veterinary Care-Springer Maintenance Consulting-Ontario Concrete & Paving Camaro mount, holding on for a four car-length win ahead of Rick Crego who settled for second for a third consecutive show. Minutolo, Jared Hill and Chris Beyea crossed the line next.

“Just gotta thank everybody that gets me here,” added Guererri, who now leads Crego by a count of 330-320 on the current points chart. “Especially Moose’s racing engines, wouldn’t be able to do this kinda stuff without that guy.”

After opening the 2025 Canandaigua campaign with successive visits to DAV Victory Lane, full-fender veteran Burnell returned to vintage form in the 15-lap Hobby Stock feature. Shadowing early leaders Justin Jacoby and Justin Eldredge from the start, Burnell pulled off a magnificent move sweeping past both Nate Peckham and Eldredge with five to go and went on to score a solid 15 car-length win at the end.

“The car was good but we still need to get a little better, thought Justin (Eldredge) was gonna just drive off into the sunset there,” exclaimed Burnell, now with 38 career stock car wins at LOLR, 11 registered in the Hobby division. “I drove in that one time and they were hitting me on the restart, then drove around in (turns) three and four and this thing stuck. Thought ‘man, I might have something here’ if I can just put (turns) one and two together.”

After a turn four tangle involving Jacoby and Kevin Lloyd, Burnell found himself behind Eldredge and Peckham for the lap nine restart. Flying from third to first the next time around, Burnell never back looked back cruising home behind the wheel of his familiar #57B Mullen Southern Truck Parts-Terrell’s Potato Chips-BAP Engines/BRD machine. Peckham, Minutolo, Tyler Burnell and Blane Smith rounded out the top-5.

Leading the entire distance in the 12-lap Legends Sportsman finale, Wetherbee joined Greenley George, Kennedy Payne and Angel Sperring as the latest female to grace victory lane at the historic Ontario Co. Fairgrounds oval.

“Car was pretty good, made a couple changes after hot laps and before the feature that really helped,” downplayed the shy driver from Dansville, a recent University of Buffalo graduate and now proud owner of a Civil Engineering degree. “Stayed right on the bottom and it helped. Coming from go-carts this is a very big win, very exciting.”

Scheduled to start 10th on the 12-car grid, three-time winner Chris Darling ran out of time, settling for second a dozen car-lengths behind Wetherbee’s winning no. 33Z Unlimited Metalwork-Next Level Automotive-Expressway Auto Auction-Matthews Buses/Bicknell car in the non-stop six-mile race. Two-time victor Kyle Ridley placed third ahead of Tom Bayer and Brianna Murtaugh in her first fairgrounds foray.

LUCRATIVE QUIGLEY MEMORIAL HEADLINES JULY 5 CRSA RETURN

The A-Verdi Storage Containers CRSA Sprints return to Canandaigua on July 5 for the inaugural Jason Quigley Memorial presented by iFreeze Storage & Distribution Center. Spearheaded by Adam and Stacy DePuy, the 25-lap feature will pay tribute to Quigley, a fellow racer, sponsor and long-time friend of Adam, who passed away in January. Quigley competed in a Street Stock at LOLR, a division in which DePuy previously racked up numerous victories and multiple track titles before moving into the sprint car ranks.

Courtesy of iFreeze, Todd’s Towing, Quigley Concrete, B&N Disposal, Scott’s Services, Eldredge & Sons Scrap Recycling and Legion Auto Service & Repair, $5000 in extra purse money —$1,750 to win— awaits racers in round three of the DisBatch Brewing Company Challenge. Supplementing the $10,335 saved for the top-24 race day qualifiers, an additional $2,355 in lap sponsorship rewarding random drivers in the front-15 plus $910 in specialty awards ups the ante.

Along with the increased purse for both CRSA shows next weekend totalling nearly $19,000 in cash alone, the winner of each race, in addition to the Sept. 27 A-Main at LOLR, will receive a free right-rear Hoosier Tire compliments of VanBortel Trucking.

The return of the CRSA tour to the fairgrounds on Saturday accompanies a full card of Pepsi Big-Block Modified, Stirling Lubricants Sportsman, Auto Value Parts Stores Street Stock and Lloyd's Contracting Hobby Stock action with the Hutchinson Property Preservation New Legends Sportsman class having the night off. Pit gates open at 3:30pm, spectators gain entrance at 5 o'clock, hot laps start at 5:30 and qualifying gets underway at 6:30pm.
